I joined my college’s male wrestling team and we have practice twice a week. During our first practice session, the coach had us do something that I last did as a kid in school: sock wrestling. He had us all take off our shoes and then crawl around on a mat, trying to take both of the other guy’s socks. The last guy who still had on at least one sock won. It felt pretty juvenile for most of us, as we wrestled for each others sweaty, smelly socks, so I’m just wondering: is this standard wrestling practice and what’s the point of doing this?

You could try here for more help with that.

Junior colleges do not offer scholarships. At least not in California.

I mean because of the secret of wrestling being pre-determined revealed well people had thought of wrestling as "gay" or "fake".

I had heard of people being pissed off because pro wrestling had given college wrestling a bad name.
If you say to somebody you are a wrestler they first thing they think is "fake sport".

But it also gives college wrestling recognition.
I mean when wrestling became famous it had encouraged people to try it out.

But see when was the last time before this when somebody asked a question about college wrestling ??

So is pro wrestling ruining college wrestling’s credebility

Hey RnW I’m suppose to post this Q but I thought it will get a vio because it’s controversial but YOU just enhanced my question.

Yeah I agree with you I may not be a wrestler but real wrestlers from schools are getting less motivation with this frustrating comparison.
Their hard training leads to wrong judgement.

On and off…

I was flipping between that and the basketball at one point. Saw the one legged wrestler from ASU and was unbelievably impressed by his composure and skill, considering he was only a sophomore and has such a serious disadvantage against the more able bodied individuals. His semi-final match against the guy from Edinburgh (Or whatever the school was – Red uniform) was a great one to watch.

The Ohio State University

im 15 in 10th grade weigh 118 to 124 pounds average. I am starting wrestling this year in October what can i expect from this sport?

well I don’t know about the blood and tears the other guy above mentioned but yes you will probably sweat a lot :)

The best thing is meeting people.Whatever level you are you can travel to other schools and comps, and later if you want other cultures.

The good news is the style you are doing covers all the moves in the world’s wrestling styles, and the best takedowns for the submission styles.

In other words you will be able to step into a beach wrestling comp, spar with a greco guy, give an MMA guy lessons on his single leg, enter a turkish oil wrestling championship or roll with a indian mud wrestler(!) should you ever visit their countries.

whats a good college for wrestling ?

I would recommend Oklahoma as the great NCAA title champion Dave Schultz went there. It has a good wrestling record with some exceptional coaches.

im just wondering how grueling their practices are

get down on your hands and feet ( feet not knees ) and push your head to touch the ground then flip over hold ing your body with your neck but be very carfull wile doing so

Im 19. I am a huge pro wrestling fan. Its a passion. But everyone I tell I want to become a wrestler to, laughs and says I cant make it. I also want a good career with good money. Should I go to college or concentrate on being a wrestler?

It depends on what you really want to do.If your dream and passion is to become a pro wrestler, then by all means pursue it.Although your chances of making it are highly unlikely, there’s still a chance. Most people don’t make it.And if you don’t you could always have something to fall back on in case you don’t make it.I would choose the wrestling.Even though I could also find a career in cooking it’s not something I want to do.I am set, determined, and will not give up in pursuing my goals and dreams. So it’s really all up to you,do you fight, never give up,give everything you gotfor a chance to become a pro wrestler or do you go to college and get a career in cooking. If you’re not certain and can’t decide, you could go to college for 4 years for cooking and then go to a wrestling school. Also you could go to the wrestling school while going to college or you could also take college at different times of the day when you don’t have go to wrestling. In all really, follow your dreams and your heart. Many people feel let down and have many regrets and that what if.If it’s truly what you want to do,then pursue it.Follow your heart.
